  • The Location Department is dynamic, exciting and can lead to a fulfilling career in the film and TV industry. 'Locations' is an essential part of the overall film making process, involved with every department in all stages of production. From script breakdown, location scouting, working with directors, designers, down to the logistical and detailed planning of the shoot. On a daily basis the location department work with film crew, councils, the public, home owners, businesses, police, security, the list goes on.

  • A Location Assistant (LA) is a vital member of the location team representing the location department on set. A Location Assistant is a junior role that liaises with every department helping them with all aspects of the day to day running of the shoot, prep and reinstatement of locations.

The role can be physically demanding and can involve a lot of outdoor work depending on where the production is filming.

  • A Location Marshal is the entry level role into the Location Department and they usually report to the Location Assistant or ‘Key’ Marshal.

As a marshal your tasks can vary from participating in large lock-offs when filming in public areas to prevent the public or crew walking into shot, through to helping with the set-up and reinstatement of the locations kit and equipment.

Working as a location marshal can offer the chance to be close to the action.

Like a Location Assistant the role of a marshal can be physically demanding and may involve a lot of outdoor work depending on where the production is filming.
